Lae Yacht Club
The Lae Yacht Club & Marina was newly re-located in 2004 and now faces the panoramic vista of the Huon Gulf. Due to its scenic view it is a favorite watering-hole for business folks, local anglers and boaties after a stressful day at the office.
The new Marina is home to the Lae Gamefishing Club, and can moor approximately 50 or more gamefishing boats during a gamefishing tournament.
During Easter 2006, the Lae Yacht Club was host to the PNG National Gamefishing Titles that boast of a record of over 300 angler participants, over a 10-day game-fishing & tagging spectacular. Anglers from around PNG, Australia and USA attended the popular Fishing tournament.
Overseas students from Lae resident families travel home especially to participate in these tournaments. The Young Anglers program is well fostered with the Lae Gamefishing club, especially the tag-&-release program. The tournament is regularly visited by the international gamefishing journalist of 'Blue Water' magazine fame, Peter Pakula, who claims PNG is one of his favorite places to fish in the world.
The Lae Yacht Club holds regular local fishing tournaments almost every month of the year. Tournament locations vary from Salamaua, Huon District, Finschhafen District and around the Huon Coast. An annual local tournament that is very popular amongst the local anglers is the Tami Island Tournament.
The venue facilities cater for corporate functions with a difference, Balls and other celebratory occasions. It is also the annual special location for the Gun-Breakfast after the Anzac Day Dawn Service.
