The Lae War Memorial Cemetery dedicated to members of the WWII allied forces, is situated adjacent to the Botanical Gardens.
These grounds are meticulously maintained by Australian Government in Canberra.
The serene site is the poignant location and venue for the Annual Commemorative ANZAC Day Dawn service held on 25th April each year.
The Dawn Service is organised and conducted by The Australian Defence Force of Igam Barracks with the PNG Defence Force in attendance.
Often times there are visiting Australian and/or New Zealand dignitaries attending alongside Lae City residents in
commemoration of those who lost their lives during the WWII.
Following the Dawn Service, a complimentary Gun-Shot Breakfast is held for all Dawn Service attendees at the Lae Yacht Club situated along the esplanade overlooking the Huon Coast.
Commemorative plaqued headstones
dedicated to members of the Australian, New Zealand and Indian Forces can be viewed on the grounds. Morobe Tourism Bureau has the memorial register that lists the Australian plaques for family members who wish to check.
